The Trayvon Martin Case is just a another hint to Black folks about the need for Black Solidarity/Unity.

March 25, 2012

I read a caption on the internet this week that went like this, “Trayvon Martin Death Galvanizing a Nation.” My first thought or question to myself was, “What nation?” Of course, the assumption was this country. Maybe I have been missing it in the news, but has anyone heard a white, Hispanic, Jewish, Asian or even a homosexual national or local radio talk show host besides black radio talk show hosts such as Steve Harvey, Rickey Smiley, Tom Joiner, and Michael Baisden get on the air and declare justice be done in this Trayvon Martin case? I know about all of the news media outlets covering the story because it’s in the headlines. However, where are the young white college kids across America? Where is LULAC)? (League of United Latin American Citizen) Where is AACR (Asian American Civil Rights Movement) Where are the Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Defense League, Sons and Daughters of the Confederacy, the national LGBT organizations, and the various women’s’ leagues/organizations in this country? Meaning, where is all of America and not just Black America in this cause?

Personally, I think the ‘hoodie movement’ is stupid. Don’t you ever get tired of symbolism instead of justice? When the young gay man jumped off the George Washington Bridge for being ‘outted’ by his college roommate via webcam at Rutgers University two years ago, justice was swift. A cyber bullying movement took place, laws have been inacted and gays are now protected. What in hell will wearing a hooded sweatshirt do spark protection for Black males against rogue killers like Zimmerman, the public school system in this country, the criminal justice system in this country, the national hate for black boys, and growing hate for black men by black women? The solution is not a damn hoodie movement! It is black solidarity! As long as blacks continue to lack racial unity, the killing of Black people by whites/ and coconut Hispanics and the killing of black people by other black people will CONTINUE.

This little movement is cute. But comes nowhere close to what really needs to happen. Of course, RACISM is at the root of this crime. However, in my opinion, black disunity is the bigger crime here. By the way. It is more than ok for blacks to unite for the purpose of nurturing, educating, marrying, and loving their own. This cultural norm and strategy has served as an excellent political and economic power base for whites, white Jews, ethnic Jews, Hispanics, Asians, Italians, and every other racial/ethnic group in this country. Hell, even the gay community has solidarity and is making things happen. But this has yet to happen with black people.

Maybe one day we will stop all of this damn marching and actually “get on the move” to really honor the life of Trayvon Martin as well as the millions of black lives lost because of racism/white supremacy with actual black solidarity and much needed black love. Now, before anybody reading this post gets nervous at the thought of black unity. Let me say this. A lot of white people and many blacks who have chosen interracial dating, marrying, and creating children with whites as a psychological strategy in order to survive under racism/white supremacy (in other words "if you can't be em', join em") that may be reading this post will certainly interpret my words as to mean to hate white people, therefore, conjuring up white insecurity and negro fear and anxiety. This fear and anxiety will then cause them to lash out at me. I will then be labeled a race divider and THE sole person who is preventing the races from coming together as if George Washington and the rest of the slave owning fondling faggots of this country, Slave Codes, Jim CROW, J. Edgar Hoover, Bull Connor, Ronald Reagan, the KKK, and the Skin heads never existed. LOL! You know. The usual response when a strong, unafraid, intelligent black man truly speaks his mind about the reality we currently live in. Hey. I am just saying. Look. To hate Caucasians in 2012 is a waste of time and energy.

History has already proven and continues to prove to this day that any hatred towards white by a people of color is more than well deserved. But that energy can best be used to do something more constructive like finally beginning to learn from other races and cultures of color and what they did with all of their “hate energy” for white people. We (Black folks) should learn how they have historically dealt with and currently deal with white hate and white supremacy. It’s simple. They built a nation within a nation and became self-sustaining. WE HAVE YET TO DO THIS!

So, until this solidarity amongst OUR people takes place, we can look for many more Trayvon Martins, Emmitt Tills, and this continued genocide/assassination of black males in this country. Rest In Peace, little brotha, I wish we can do more in your death, but we are too afraid. Marching and begging Caesar for justice is all we are willing to do. We are still settling for crumbs instead of baking our own loaf of bread.

Cyber-Bullying? Yeah, Right?

I don’t know if you any of you have been keeping up with this case or not, but the headlines to the end of this case really disturbed me. You see. This bullying campaign that has been going on for a while now has gotten me somewhat perplexed and annoyed at the same time, if that’s even possible. I read the story about the 18 year old young man who attended Rutgers University that ended his life in 2010 by jumping off of the George Washington Bridge in New York and into the Hudson Rivers because he was exposed as being gay by his roommate who spied on him through a webcam in their dorm room kissing another man.

Here is a piece of the story that was reported by the Associated on Friday the 16th. “A New Jersey jury on Friday found former Rutgers freshman Dharun Ravi guilty of hate crime and invasion of privacy for using a webcam to spy on his college roommate kissing another man. Three days after the incident, the roommate jumped to his death. Ravi will be sentenced on May 21. He faces up to 10 years in jail and possible deportation back to India, where the 20-year-old was born before moving to the U.S. as a young boy, the Associated Press reports.”

A hate crime? Are you serious? Sentenced up to 10 years in jail? Are you serious? Deportation? Are you serious? This all reeks of a gay and homosexual political agenda at play. I am so sick of the whining. First of all, if Ravi is guilty of anything (in my opinion) it is playing too damn much. He is not at fault for a coward who took his own life because he was ASHAMED of what he was, which is a homosexual. The young man who killed himself because he was exposed for being gay is at fault for killing himself, not the young man, Ravi. The young gay man was obviously in the closet and the door just pulled open before he was ready to “come out” to the world. Hell, I hear so many gay people say that “coming out” is so liberating and such a weight lifted off of them when they either “come out” on their own or are “outed” by someone else, so what was this young man’s deal? I guess this young man wanted to stay in the closet a little while longer and just sneak around with his sexual preference.

I don’t think that this was a case of cyber bullying at all. I think it was a case of whatever was being done in the dark coming to the light. I think that this young man was following the script of so many other so-called proud gays. They hide in the closet until they reach a certain economic or social status in this country and then come out of the closet. Some examples being Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen, Latino singer Ricky Martin, and Wanda Sykes. I think that this whole cyber bullying campaign is a farce and is being used a front and a societal bully pull-pit for political and economic gains by the LGBT community and everyone who wants to get in on the massive cyber-bullying funding for their non-profit organization. It looks like almost every non-profit organization has some useless program to supposedly stop cyber bullying as the flagship of their particular organization’s list of social programs aimed at making society a better place. Baloney! I am not condoning the Ravi’s behavior in anyway, but Ray Charles can see that this whole sentencing situation is some bullcrap.

I think that the “Stop the bullying at school” and the “End Cyber bullying” campaigns have nothing to do with Black children, Latino children, and poor white children living in the ghettos of America. These campaigns, in my opinion, are for whites in suburbia and the LGBT community. When was the last time you heard a gay male being bullied at a “hood’ public school”? How about at a Historically Black College/University? When was the last time you read where a Black student went to his black high school or onto his Black college campus and shot up everybody? When was the last time you read or heard when the same media that’s giving coverage to this story, the national or local LGBT organization (s) and white suburbia gave a damn about anything that goes on the in the ghetto public schools of America?

I simply refuse to get on this emotionally driven bandwagon. I refuse to close my eyes to what is just so clear to me. Cyber-bullying can be handled the same way you handle someone who puts their hands on you at school. You stand up for yourself! If the bully at school is too big, you pick up a brick, stick, or bottle, lay his/her azz out, and then call relatives and friends to get involved. Next, for so-called cyber-bullying…you do the same thing. You video record the azz-whoopin’ you are giving him/her putting your business on blast without your permission. Then, you post that very azz-whoopin’ you gave him or her on face book, Twitter, and You Tube. Case closed!
In closing, parents stop feeding your child this non-sense (although very true) about the bully having low self-esteem and them hating themselves, which is why they lash out at others. Look. You are setting your child up to get his/her azz kicked. Teach them how to fight back, not be a therapist to a bully. Let a licensed therapist help them with their issue so your child want develop issues from getting their azz kicked at school or in life in general.

Stomp Wars Youth Steppin’ Competition 2012 in Dallas was Steppendous!

Stomp Wars Youth Steppin’ Competition 2012 in Dallas was Step-pendous!

Yes. I really enjoy being in the audience of my very first stomp wars youth competition last night. I enjoyed being around our youth in a fun-filled, energetic, positive atmosphere. It is not very often that the media portrays black youth in a positive light. Of course, I am not one who has ever allowed this American media to dictate me to what’s up with our youth. Anyway, the evening started off at a little after 5pm with a panel discussion on bullying, family values, the importance of education and the importance on being a leader. Let’s see. A 40 year old marine spoke about the importance of being a leader from a marine’s perspective. He was pretty cool. Very straight laced and stiff in his presentation, but the information was valuable. I think that the more than a thousand young people in attendance gained a lot from what he had to say.

The mayor of Dallas, an old white guy by the name of Mike Rawlins, spoke on family values. I know, right? LOL! I am still chuckling over that one. Ok, next your very own, crowned, Miss Texas spoke on bullying. She shared a couple of sad stories about two kids (obviously white) who committed suicide because of supposedly being bullied at school. There was a fourth person on the panel who was supposed to get up speak and on education and how one can make money the right way by way of getting a college education, which she did eventually after Miss Texas finally got off her bully pull-pit with her stories of how she met President Obama and how she plans to take her fight to congress to end bullying. Yes. She went on and on and on and on and on…….Well, you get the picture. I was just waiting for her tell the judges, I mean the youth in attendance just how if crowned Miss Bully America, she would bring about world peace. LOL! Man, it was torture.

During the question and answer period I told her and the audience what I thought about her bully proposal. I simple said. “I don’t get it.” “I grew up in the hood.” “There were gay students in our ‘hood’ schools, but I can’t recall any of them running home scared or committing suicide because they were made fun of because they were gay.” “The gay kids in my school, stood up for themselves.” You only made fun of them one time. That was it. “We all had to stand up to our bully if we had one.” “When I had a bully, I had a brother, cousins, sisters, a mother and friends to help handle that.” “We never had a long time bully.” “We took care of the bully right then and there!” As I was speaking, I could hear coming from the audience filled with youth and parents who currently live in the hoods of Dallas and Fort Worth, “That’s right!” “You said that!” “Me either!” “Uhh-Huhh,” which was quickly followed by a round of applause. I ended my comments by saying to Miss Texas, “I think your proposal is precious, but what’s up with the parenting these days?”

So, now the on to the competition. At 6:30pm the show got on the road. First, let me say this. It is true that I have not been a huge fan or admirer of so-called Black Greek lettered organizations in the past and for very good reasons. That is another totally different blog. However, I still feel the very same way about these organizations today. I knew back then that the steppin’ had nothing to do with Greekdom. It is all Afrikan baby! The rhythms, the calculated movements, the timing and the soul came from a great people. This is how I was able to even attend and enjoy the Greek show performances back then. I knew I was not witnessing Greeks on stage. I was witnessing Afrikan greatness on stage. Last night, I witnessed the same Afrikan greatness. Sadly, many of those high school kids on stage will go off to college to pledge a Black Greek organization, to feel some semblance of their greatness when all they will have to do is read their history and learn that their greatness comes in a much larger portion than just a semblance.

Now, on to the stepping completion. The first all male act set the stage to what would become a night of action-packed stepping routines that were worthy of being compared to some of the great step-shows that I had the pleasure of witnessing while a student at Grambling State University back in the day. I could see the Alphas of 91’ 92’ and 93’ up there on stage. These young people had the very precision, style and the discipline of a college level step squad. I could see the 92’ and 93’ AKAs up there as well as the 92’ Zetas. These kids did there thing. I remember standing up to applaud and cheer for two of the acts that I thought were just awesome. I genuinely enjoyed seeing our young peoples’ stars shine so brightly last night. However, there were some unusual things that I did notice in the performances last night which was a common theme. First, there was the over dramatization used the speaking parts that each group did during their performances. The extra yelling and the wild jerking of head and shoulders as they would speak their lines kind of threw me for a loop. I don’t recall this drama being a part of a step routine back in college. Hey, maybe it’s the new thing in youth steppin’.

The second thing I noticed was the appearance of a requirement to have some length of hair. I mean even some of the boys had hair (hot iron pressed or locs) to thrust back and forth, which I guess was to add more accent to the movements on stage. Uhh, ok. I guess I can go along with that. While I am at it, I may as well add a third thing I noticed in the performances. There were quite a few, shall I say, ‘soft’ young brothaz on stage. They were good. They were entertaining. However, the impact of fatherlessness on single female headed households just kept going through my mind as I was sitting there checking out many of the performances. Anyway, I guess that’s neither here nor there. Wait. I heard boys in the audience yell up at the stage to other boys and girls who were performing, “You betta work!” I even heard a father who sat behind me say, “You better work, son!” Damn! It is like that now!? Can, presumably heterosexual boys and straight men can say, “You betta work!” to other boys and men? WOW!

Now, this is the action that was on stage. Look, if you ever want to hear some of the funniest comments from an audience or learn any new dances that are out among the youth today, last night at the step competition was the place to be. A deejay from one of the popular hip-hop stations here in Dallas was the music MC for the night. I got my ‘Dougie’ on. I did the south Dallas swag, and bobbed my head as I witnessed the many youngsters in the venue wrecking the place with dance moves that peeps over 40 (like me) should only just bob their heads in amusement. My knees or my back could not handle the very rapid, intense and fierce body movements that those kids displayed as the deejay played the best of their favorite songs between each step act. The music MC did pay tribute to us older heads in the audience with a few hits from back in the day from Frankie Beverly and Maze, BBD, and Doug E. Fresh just name a few.

I left the event feeling pretty good. I felt energized. I felt good about “the cause” even more so than usual. I left the event realizing that since moving to Dallas a little over three years ago, I have not been involved in any youth oriented causes. All I have done is chase a dollar during the week and a few skirts on the weekends since I have been here. When I lived in Memphis, I was always involved with the youth in my community because I knew the need and I saw the need every day. Last night helped me to realize that I can chase a dollar, chase a few skirts, and work with the youth here in Dallas, my new home. I know there is a need. I have seen the need. Now it is time to go where I am needed.

Many thanks to the Rock T. Youth Foundation, Rock T. and the supporters of such a wonderful cause for such an amazing event. I have been inspired to get involved right here in Dallas.

My thoughts on the Whitney Houston Funeral

Please allow me to first apologize to you, the reader for not posting an article last Sunday as promised. After watching the funeral, I needed a little more time to process what I spent four hours watching. I watched the entire funeral on television last weekend and I thought it was a nice ceremony. I loved Kim Burrell’s remixed rendition of the Sam Cooke classic, “A Change is Gonna Come.” I was even moved a little by R. Kelly’s performance of “I Look to You.” Hell, I was even tempted to stand on my feel when Tyler Perry was doing his thing at the podium. However, I must say that tears formed in my eyes as Bebe Winans sang the very song he had written and sung for his own brother who’d passed away previously. I was also moved by the way the pall-bearers carried Whitney’s body out of the church as “I’ll Always Love You” played in the background. Yes. I saw Ray J. jump up and place his hand on the coffin while sobbing uncontrollably as they carried her body outside of the church.

You know what? After the service was over, my brain’s computer clicked back on. My mental processor went to work overtime. First, Was it me or did you realize that the only two white men that got up to speak (Clive Davis and Kevin Costner), spoke well over 15 minutes a piece while everyone else (Black) spoke or sang up five minutes? Also, after suffering through the Kevin Costner rambling, it finally dawned on me. Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston had sex during the making of the Bodyguard movie. Let’s keep it real. Whitney could not act her way out of a paper bag at that time. She really did not do so hot in Waiting to Exhale. However, she was a far better actress than that damn Janet Jackson is today. Why would you postpone the making of a supposed major movie for an entire year for a non-acting pop singer? By the way, Kevin Costner has never been able to act. The movie actually sucked. It was corny, cliché-ish’ and the writing was horrible. Kevin Costner knew that Whitney’s star power at that time would bring people to the theaters. It worked to the tune of 500 million dollars worldwide

Kevin Costner has not had a major hit movie since the Bodyguard. Well, since Dances with Wolves in 1990 and that’s it! Now, Clive Davis is another story. There is something SINister about this dude. His eyes look scary. Clive Davis has had more black women protégé’s than than Thomas Jefferson. I mean, this dude is all over the place. He has had his hands in the pockets and possibly the panties of more black female artists than J.Edgar Hoover had dresses. Have any of you ever heard of the Brophemet Society in hollywood? You know, an alleged secret society of the illuminati that supposedly controls the entertainment industry, which includes the movies, Sports, Hip-hop, and Gospel, RnB, Rock and Pop music? Well, when you get a chance check out the videos on YouTube that talks about blood sacrifices and the rituals that allegedly occur in this supposed society.

There are so many celebrities who are supposedly involved in this alleged secret society. According to the videos, Clive Davis is at the top of the list as being one of the guys you must go to see in order to become big in the industry. A lot of those celebrities were at Whitney Houston’s funeral speaking and singing. Also, a lot of them are allegedly homosexual. When Kevin and Clive got up to speak, I thought about those videos and the information that they contain. Whitney’s death or murder and the funeral (according what you hear on the videos) was nothing more than a ritual burial of one of their own who had decided that she wanted out and could no longer go along with the foolishness of the industry. According to the videos, one cannot break the oath or tell the secrets of the industry once you are allowed inside. Tupac and Michael Jackson found out the hard way, allegedly.

Did you all know that according to the blood sacrifice videos, in order for an artist to gain the height of Whitney Houston’s success, Beyonce’s success and even Michael Jackson’s success, the artist allegedly makes a pledge or takes a secret oath to repay the society’s blessings with a blood sacrifice (family member, friend, or another artist) and/or participate in many of the Hollywood sexual ritual rituals (most of them homosexual in nature) to gain superstardom?

This is why I think that Kevin Costner and Clive Davis both had sex with Whitney. However, I think that Clive had sex with Whitney when she was a young teenager and Kevin had her in her twenties. I know that when I saw Jesse Jackson and R. Kelly’s nasty ass at the funeral, this was no ordinary funeral. It appears that we (the world) may have watched a satanic ritual burial and did not even know it. If this society is a real society in Hollywood, this would certainly explain a lot in my mind about why so many actors and other entertainers are either bi-sexual, gay, drug addicts and even severely depressed. This would also explain why when we have so many black millionaires in the entertainment industry, but they rarely speak out against the MANY injustices being committed against Black people in this country or even help to end the poverty and mis-education in the urban and inner cities where a lot us live. Hell, they are bound and gagged by some secret oath or a secret homosexual act not to do or say a damn thing or they will be exposed or even killed.

I guess I could be saying the same thing about Black greek  fraterities and Black greek sororities and their secret oaths and the members of the Black Boule’ (boo-lay) and their secret oaths but that is another article for another time. :)

Rest in Peace, Whitney Houston. It looks like you deserve the much needed rest.

These are just my thoughts on Whitney Houston

These are just my thoughts on Whitney Houston

Last night at around 7:30pm, I received a phone call from my mother telling me that Whitney Houston had died. I could hear in the shock and disbelief her voice. As she was telling me to turn onto CNN, I felt myself going into a kind of shock and disbelief. I was closest to my computer so I decided to log on to see what other news sources were reporting. It was true. The one and only Whitney Houston had indeed died in her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton. Friends on Face book almost immediately began sending out death notices and condolences to her family. I even created a post on my face book page expressing how dangerous drugs are to the family and to one’s body over a long period of use. I was saddened by the news, but not surprised. After, I posted the comment; I was reminded that I had plans for later in the evening to attend an Aquarius party at the House of Blues downtown. Needless to say, I did not make the event.

Instead, I went and sat in front of the television for a few hours and watched reports of her death and listened to the comments of the many celebrities who either knew Whitney Houston personally or who were just huge fans of her music and her iconic status. As the night wore on, I grabbed the rest of the Mexican food that I had left over from a small Mexican restaurant where I had, eaten lunch earlier. By the way, this restaurant is not fancy, but the food is soooo good. Anyway, after falling asleep from watching the Whitney death reports and a couple of episodes of the Boondocks, I woke early this morning to log on to see what the world was saying about Whitney Houston’s death.

I went on a couple of news blog sites and even checked emails in hotmail account. Well, news keeps coming. This morning there is speculation that Whitney possibly died as a result of drowning in the bathtub at the hotel room she was staying in last night. The article stated that Bobbi Kristina was there screaming to be allowed in the room to see her mother as the paramedics tried to revive her. The report also alleges that Whitney supposedly took some prescription pills before getting in the tub. As I said, allegedly. Damn, this is true, it sounds similar to how RnB singer Gerald Levert allegedly died a few years back. Gerald reportedly accidentally mixed the wrong pill prescriptions and never woke back up. Pills that causes one to relax so deeply usually are referred to xanax, valium, etc (benzodiazepines). These are taking if one has anxiety, trouble sleeping, or is for some reason, jittery. These pills come with a warning to never take with alcohol. I am not saying that Whitney Houston did this. I am just sharing information.

Also, I read on a blog where some of the respondents where blaming Bobby Brown for Whitney’s drug addiction and troubles. Comments like, “If she had never met Bobby Brown Whitney would still be alive today” and “Whitney’s church upbringing is the cause for staying in a marriage that was obviously troubled for too long. She was trying to stay true to her faith and make her marriage work” were a part of the many responses. I say this. True. I do think that religion and church keep people, but especially women, in bad relationships and with bad men too damn long. Next, I don’t think that Bobby Brown is to blame for Whitney’s drug addiction. Bobby was a younger, bad boy when they met years ago. He was drinking and probably smoking weed when they met. Whitney was America’s sweetheart on television who came up in a strict church environment. By the way, Whitney was already drinking alcohol when they met. Also, if we are honest with ourselves about most preachers’ kids or most of the children who come from strict religious/church household, we already know that these children tend to go buck wild when they are introduced to what their religious upbringing tried to keep them from, which is the real world; the good, the bad and the ugly.

Many would say that Whitney actually met her match in Bobby Brown. However, when it comes to who is to blame for her addiction to drugs, we would love to point the finger at Bobby Brown who was also an addict/alcoholic, the dope man, even her mother Sissy Houston for possibly trying to make Whitney into this perfect Christian little girl and angelic woman. Sadly, we can only point the finger at Whitney for this one. I was one of the millions who was hoping that Whitney would make a major comeback with her voice. The CD she put out a couple of years ago was nice and even had a few hits on it. I actually liked the CD. My favorite songs on the CD were ‘I Look to You’, ‘I Never Knew My Own Strength,’ and ‘Million Dollar Bill.’ But, the song that made me cry whenever I heard it on the radio or especially when I heard her sing it live is a tossup between ‘I Look to You’ and ‘I Never Knew My Own Strength.’ Both of those songs move me a certain way even today because you can hear in her voice a woman who has been through some things and is glad that she was able to survive after all of the trials and tribulations she had endured to get back to some sense of civility in her life.

I will have to pick a time in the future when I will be able to listen to either one of those songs again because today is not the day. Even though Whitney had her much publicized issues with drugs and a troubled marriage, she did not leave us out. She gave us, her fans, some of the best music and singing that the world will ever know. I thank her so much for being the songstress, the diva, and the woman of pop and soul that she was to us, her fans and admirers. I hate she had to leave so soon. I did not know Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Etta James, Don Cornelius, and Vesta Williams personally, but the contributions they made to this world and its music, to the black community, touched me personally. My heart is saddened by Whitney’s passing, but my musical experiences have been enriched. Rest in Peace, Nippy. 

These are my thoughts on the Whitney Houston situation. As Forrest Gump would say and so eloquently, “That’s all I have to say about that.”

Don Cornelius: A World Renown Soul Icon who became a victim of “Sadness"

Don Cornelius: A World Renown Soul Icon who became a victim of “Sadness"
I used the word sadness because Don’s son, Tony Cornelius, used the word ‘sad’ on The Tom Joyner Morning this past Friday morning. When asked by Tom Joyner if his father was depressed about anything, Tony Cornelius said, “My father was not depressed, he was just sad.” Tony went on to say, “My father was hurting from frequent headaches. He survived a brain surgery in 1982 as a result of a brain aneurism.” Tony also said that he father was a very private man. He said that if there was anything ever wrong with his father, the family would not know right away because his father was not the kind of man who talked about things that were going in his life.

Maybe Tony Cornelius used the word ‘sad’ to describe his father’s mood because the word ‘depressed’ carries with it a stigma of being labeled mentally ill or less than being manly. Or maybe his son does not know the symptoms of depression. Well, as a survivor of chronic depression, this whole scenario up the eventual suicide has depression written all over it. You see. One can have money, fame, and even a loving family and still get depressed. According to the latest statistics 92% of Black men with depression DO NOT seek therapy or counseling. Also, black men have surpassed black women and other races in suicide. I battled depression for three years straight (1996-1999). It took me almost killing myself in an automobile accident to finally get much needed help for my issues. Yes. I was drunk behind the wheel. Yes. For three years I medicated my “sadness” with alcohol. After, having gone to counseling, I was given a new lease on my life. Today, I don’t medicate any problems I may have with alcohol. I do have my melancholy moments or sad days, but nothing that calling a friend, going out on a date, or just picking up the phone and calling my mother just to say hello, won’t cure.

Since 2000, I have put my social work/therapeutic focus on the health and mental health of Black men and boys. I am working to do part in showing Black boys and Black men that WE TOO, ROCK. I am encouraging Black men to look at counseling and as an option and not a curse word. I want black men to become friends again and not be afraid to call each for support when we are feeling ‘sad.’ I want us to bond intellectually as well as athletically. I want us to realize that our female counterparts are outliving us because they talk to each other. They support each other in good and bad times. They share health tips. They uplift each other. As Black men, we can learn a thing or two from a Black woman’s book/guide on how to survive and remain emotionally and mentally healthy during unsure and trying times.

I felt a sense of loss at the news of Don Cornelius’s death and was really saddened that the cause of death was suicide. I feel really sad for his family because they have been left with so many questions of why. According to Tony, the answers to the why questions left with his father on that tragic Wednesday morning at 4:00am. Suicide becomes ‘the answer’ when we disallow other survival options to enter into our minds. When a depressed or sad person is heading down the path of suicide, doors are being closed mentally along the way. Meaning, as the depressed person becomes more and more depressed, he or she does not see many options or brighter days. Therefore, what’s the use in trying to solve a problem that cannot be fixed? This is when isolation becomes more and more prevalent. A lot of times when the family or friends finally decide to become more aggressive in reaching the depressed person or loved on, it is too late.
Don Cornelius, thank you so much for soul train. Thank you so much for your positive image. Thank you so much for showing the world that Black people are indeed a SOULful force to be reckoned with on this planet. I know wherever you are; it is definitely a stone gas! I am Rico Rivers and I am truly wishing you, Don Cornelius, Love, Peace and SOOOOUUUULLLLL!!!

Recent poll states: "Many Black women prefer religion over romance."

Black women, I love you! But you say some of the silliest things sometimes.

As a safe, secure, sane, and competent Black man, I want to say that I love black people so much. I really love black women. I love Black women so much, that I hope to someday meet a Black woman who would accept me as an intelligent, articulate, college educated black man who does not have any tattoos, has never had any children out of wedlock, nor has ever been involved in a domestic violence situation. Moreover, I would love be accepted by a black woman who does not mind me being proud of being black and one does not have a religion or one who does not attend nor belong to anyone’s church.

Well, according a recent poll conducted by the “Washington Post” with 2000 Black women surveyed and 800 of them interviewed, the Black women polled stated that they preferred religion over romance. Many of us would assume that this could mean that, according the poll, Black women would rather cuddle up with an idea/philosophy or the memory of a supposed dead man (that most would refer to as Jesus Christ) than be with a real, alive Black man. Hey, I just read the poll.

Last year, blogger and authoress, Deborrah Cooper, www.askheartbeat.com wrote the explosive article, “How the Black Church Keeps African American Women Single and Lonely,” peoples’ opinions varied all over the place. However, quite a few readers felt that this was not true or way too over the top. Well, according to this latest poll in the Washington Post, Ms. Cooper not only touched a nerve. It sounded like she hit the nail right on the head. LOL! Look, Sistas. We have got to get past this damn religion. It has killed us a community/race for too long. What is it so deep about a shallow philosophy like Christianity that keeps so many of you from even using your intelligent minds when it comes to love and finding the right man for you? Back in the day, Church and religion had its place. A woman used to be able to run across a man in church who believed the same way she did when it came to religion. Now, most or more than the majority of Black men are not in the church, therefore not a part of any religion. That should tell you something.

I find it alarming that so many Black have stated that they would rather be love with a mythical dead man and dead philosophy than stand up and face the reality of going out in the real world getting the man of your dreams by becoming the woman in his reality. Loving this Jesus figure is fine, I guess. However, when you can’t separate fantasy from reality, you only hurt yourself. Saying that you would rather have a flawed religion than a nice healthy romance with a nice healthy man is not even a statement that a person who is presumed to be intelligent would make.

I am led to believe that the black women who answered this way in the poll are probably tired and frustrated by their inability to obtain that healthy, wholesome romance with a real person. Pretty much like the women who would rather get fake and unnatural sexual pleasure from a battery operated dildo, than from a real man with a real penis that is operated by the motion of strong and repetitious hip thrusts. There is no greater love than between a real man and a real woman. Ladies, Religion can’t keep a burglar away. Religion can keep you warm at night in the winter. Religion can’t look at you at tell you just how beautiful you are in the morning. Religion can’t bring you beautiful flowers when you get home from work ‘just because.’ Religion can’t tell you that your cooking was excellent last night. Religion can’t do a lot of the wonderful real things that a real man can do. Most importantly, a religion never has and never will get you to a heaven after you die.

As a man, I would never choose the fake over the real. Romance is not dead. It is just sitting there suspended in time and space, waiting for this generation of potential lovers to pick up where our elders left off so long ago. Sadly, many of us are just scared. We are scared of putting ourselves “out there” and possibly getting rejected. Hey, if you never go through being rejected, how would you find the one that is right for you? Using religion as a safe alternative to being rejected is a cop out. Fellas, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and you already know what that is all about. Now that so many Black women have made their preference for religion over romance publicly known, it looks like this year for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and her birthday, her gifts should include, a picture of the blonde, blue-eyed Jesus, a Bible (Kings James version), and a MLK church hand fan. LOL!!

No Redtails movie for me, THANKS.

I want to officially congratulate all of you (particularly Black folks) who gave “back to black” this weekend by proving to the racist white/Jew-ish ran Hollywood establishment that you can spend money. LOL!! I think it was already made clear by past and recent economic statistics that Black people love to shop and spend money. We are serious when it comes to being top consumers in this country. We seem to get some sick joy out of making others rich and even richer. Yes. Your consumer spirit was well tapped into this weekend by the Hollywood marketing machine. It is quite sad because they did not even have to try anything new or different to get our money for this particular movie. They used the same ole, “Hey Black people, here is your chance to prove how valuable you are to a racist system.” Meaning, they used the same psychology of Jim Crow that many blacks fell victim to back during the days of segregation, including the Tuskegee Airmen.

Ok. Here is how black people were suckered into doing stupid things under guise of fighting for freedom, while actually committing psychological suicide under a system that WILL NEVER see them as equal. Since, we refused to follow the blue print for actually gaining freedom like all the other races, we took short cuts. The Tuskegee Airmen thought if they could prove to racist America that they could fight in their war, America would somehow treat them as equals. WRONG! When they got done fighting their little hearts out in WWII, they returned to this country still viewed and treated like Niggers! While they risked their lives in Germany fighting for the lives of Jews and free whites back in America, their own people were still being lynched and Jim Crowed to death.

This past weekend was no different from the misguided actions of the Tuskegee Airmen during the days of Jim Crow. Supposedly intelligent people, who seem to still be taking the shortcut to freedom, packed the theaters this weekend to see a movie THEY SAID would not be funded, produced, and distributed because it was a so-called black movie. That statement alone should have woke some people up or at least raised some eyebrows. Next, the person who made this announcement was none other than George Lucas of Lucas Films, LTD. I don’t think that too many black people know who George Lucas is so please allow me to give a brief bio of George Lucas. Ok. George Lucas is the owner, producer/director of the billion dollar Star Wars franchise. He and Steven Spielberg also collaborated on the ET and the Indian Jones franchise. Now, I know a lot of you flocked to the movie theaters this past weekend with the sincere belief that we were somehow furthering a black cause or helping to get unknown black history out to the masses. Well, sorry to burst your bubble. That story has already been told. I saw it on HBO a few years back. It was alright.

Lucas was not doing anybody (especially black folks) a favor when he financed the movie. A man in business never spends money without the expectation of a return on his money. I can’t believe that so many supposedly intelligent black people in the media and in society fell for that old statement of Hollywood not wanting fund or distribute this movie. George Lucas is Hollywood! HE is one of the major players in Hollywood. He flat out lied and we fell for it. We fell for it because we absolutely refuse to accept the concept of doing for self. Marcus Garvey had a newspaper with the readership of about one million black folks worldwide without the use of the internet or the financial backing of any major white news paper back in the 1930s. So, why is it that we still depend on Jesus, I mean, whites to save us or to tell and distribute our damn stories in 2012? I just don’t get it.

Again. The same old story. Whitey gets a pat on the back from black people and the world for using his white influence under the system of white supremacy to throw Negroes a bone. Directors like Spike Lee, Bill Duke, and John Singleton just to name a few have all tried to create movies that told our stories, American stories, but fell short because of the Hollywood wall of hate whenever it came down to getting decent financing and proper distribution to be able to appropriately tell our stories to the masses and I am not talking about comedies and stupid buddy movies. So, whenever it came to these particular Black directors, we hardly ever supported any of the quality movies they attempted to bring to us, such as Rosewood, Malcolm X, and Miracle at St. Anna. So now, that the white billionaire has pulled some strings on his own behalf, it was time to rally up the Negro populace to help him make his money back for supposedly doing us a favor. I don't think so.

George Lucas can afford to write as many checks as he wants. He is a billionaire. Black people helped him to become this wealthy tycoon. I am just waiting the day when will stop taking these short-cuts to freedom and independence and begin to do what Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, and Elijah Muhammad tried to teach us before the onslaught of the integration propaganda became too cemented in our psyche. Freedom ain’t free. If you rely on others (especially your former enslavers/oppressor and current systematic tormentors) to tell your stories such as the Tuskegee Airmen movie, two things will always happen. 1. The truth will be compromised. 2. They will make themselves look worthy of redemption after never having to pay for the wrong they committed against a person or a people.

Finally, if George Lucas is still in mood of spending money on history when it comes to blacks in this country, I have two suggestions…How about putting100 million dollars behind another movie with Tuskegee in the title like the “Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment” or 100 million dollar behind the truth how AIDS/HIV was actually created and why. It can be called, “The Global 2000 Report on the depopulation of people of color.” While I am at it, I have to suggest to him about putting 100 million dollars behind a movie that goes into deep into the Jew-ish participation in the American slave trade.

I know its wishful thinking. Hell, even George Lucas knows that the Black masses will not go to the movies to see anything like what I suggested even if he suggested it himself.

We will get it one day I hope.

A Letter from a son to his Religious mother.. "I have had it!"

I ran across this letter that was written by an adult son to his mother who is a minister at her church. It sounds like he has had enough of her using religion to control him and to make him feel guilty about not being a Christian. I loved the letter when I read it. I could not have spoken the words in the letter any more clearly if I were to address Black people as a whole about religion and Christianity. When I read the letter, I relived the freedom I first experienced when I first denounced religion and Christianity as a young man of 13 years old many years ago. It felt good. I felt a sense of independence when I walked away from the mental and emotional burden of organized religion.

Check out the letter below and let me know what you think.

Mom:

You know that I love and respect you. I thought really long and hard about what you said to me last night. I have to be honest with myself. I have to be honest with you. I'm not buying it... I have lived under someone’s control my entire life. I have done what others told me to do my entire life. I have trusted people that I shouldn't have, just for them to flip the script on me. I'm really sick and tired of people using God as a crutch to control. I'm sick of people using God as a mechanism for fear. I'm sick of people using God to get the results that THEY actually want because they may not agree with your lifestyle. Everything I have done and not done has been because of God. When you want to live to your full potential, haters stop you and say God doesn't want you to do that. Anything involving control, staying poor, following a leader instead of being your own leader is what I get from these so-called Christians nowadays.

What equates a Christian? Acting a fool in church with your best suit on? Babbling in tongues with no interpreter? Gossiping with the "chuuch folk"? Wanting to be seen? Being effeminate? Let me tell you something. I'll respectfully pass on it. I've seen it all before. How many times do you think I've shouted and acted a fool JUST BECAUSE it got me the attention that I longed for from you and Dad??? Hmmmmmmm? No more! No more will I be afraid of idle threats that Christians throw at me. No more will I be hindered by bogus religious beliefs and fears! Black people are scarred by religious beliefs all the time! I'm just one who overcame my fear and decided to live.
No one will manipulate me again. No one will control me.

I don't trust the words of humans; I trust ONLY the words of God. If He ain't tellin' me Himself, then I ain't buying it. He is God after all, isn't he? Then why would He tell you something when He knows that I am diligent in my prayer? I get really wary when people tell me "God told me to tell you." I've heard many so called Christians say that, and it’s always been a deception of control revealed in the end. I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN. Just because a person calls themselves a Christian, doesn't mean that they fit the description.

People have forgotten how to be Christ-like. As far as Black Christians go, we are the most confused people on the planet. Don't believe me? Look at what's been going on in our Black Churches today. But I'm the one who’s wrong, and nothing is going to work for me until I "surrender?" I "surrendered" a long freaking time ago!!! How come it’s working for the snakes, perverts, money mongers and liars that I see in the pulpit? Pulpit pimps! All anybody says about that is "They'll have their day." I DON'T WANNA HEAR THAT B.S.!! I agree with you when say that people are waiting on me. They are waiting to hear how religion basically ruined and scarred my life. And I'm gonna make it known that you don't have to live in fear like I did my entire life. Living a big lie as if I'm just not good enough. NOW THAT'S A LIE FROM THE PIT!! I AM GOOD ENOUGH JUST THE WAY I AM! I know you may be angry, but I don't care.

It’s MY LIFE, and I spent a lot of time dedicating it to God, and for what? For people to continue to ASSUME, that I'm this big time sinner because I'm different? Because I believe in something different than the stuff that we were forced fed as children???? People always want more and more out of you, but never take the time to look at how far you've come already. Black folks, especially. "God said this, God said that" and have no freaking clue the torture and struggle that it took for you to improve to where you are, and that is a reproach! I'm not going to deal with it anymore or be controlled or enslaved by human words. It doesn't matter who it’s from.
The next time God gives you a message for me, you tell Him this for me, "You are the Lord our God. I believe you can do anything, including telling my son, Derek, yourself."

With love, (sorry Mom, you may be upset, but I'd rather deal with that than continue to lie to myself)

Your son. Pray for me...

Bullying at school is no cause for committing suicide. Real parental intervention is the solution.

What's up with the bullying at schools today?

I have not commented very much on the bullying issue because I guess that I have been in total shock/disbelief or just did not give a damn. Is it me or has today's society raised a generation of pussy-ass kids? As a child, I grew up in the 'hood' of north Memphis, Tennessee. I went to public schools that were centrally located in inner-city neighborhoods. Children bullying and teasing each other for the clothes they wore and shoes they sported on their feet was almost a daily occurrence. Your parents were even made fun of if other children found anything that could be considered weird about them. However, I can rarely recall a kid bringing a gun to our inner city school to shoot up the place or commit suicide because of being bullied and teased for being different. Even if a bully threatened to kick your ass at the end of school, you would somehow convince your teacher to let you leave class just a few minutes earlier so you could get a good head start home before the final bell rang that ended school for the day. Also, if you were bullied on the school bus, a parent or an older sibling waited at the bus stop where you and the bully both got off to kick the bully's ass. This experience taught the bully that you, the person being bullied, were not along. You had back up. Back then, after you confronted the bully, he/she usually became one of your closest friends for life.
We all knew or either learned that in order to get rid of a bully you had to stand up to the bully the same way he/she was antagonizing you. If the bully was teasing you or "Checkin" you about the clothes you wore to school, you checked him back, but it had to be funny and consistant. I was kind of funny, but very consistant. LOL! If you made the crowd laugh at him loudly, he would move on to some one else. Next, if your bully pushed you around, meaning got physical with you, you got physical with him. You ran home crying maybe once. The next time, you stood toe to toe; win or lose. You always won when stood up regardless of the outcome. You see. The bully thrives off of fear. When you showed the bully that you had, had enough, he backed off. Sometimes, when the bully was bigger than you, well, we got help. Our families (parents, siblings, cousins, friends, etc) got involved. When these people got involved, playtime was over! However, if you were in a situation where your support system was not around, you got help from a rock, a brick, a bat, a stick, a broken bottle on the street, your book bag, a belt buckle anything you could get your hands. When all else failed, you ran home for your life that day. However, the next day you were prepared.

This nonsense going on today is a total mess.Today, kids are committing suicide rather than stand up to a bully. Can you believe this? What a cop out? They even need support groups for being bullied now! Amazing! When I was a kid and a teenager back in the day, we had too much fun at school to want to kill ourselves over being bullied. OUR support group was our families and friends. They supported us by joining us in beating the bullies asses after school. All of this took place in the 'hood' and most of us are still alive today in our late 30s and early forties. What in the hell is going on now? This has to be some integration, suburban bullshit!

Today, kids in the 'hood' don't get down with bullying. Hell, even the gay students in our 'hood' schools back then did not tolerate being bullied. You could call them a faggot or make fun of them for being gay maybe once or twice. However, If you thought you were going to make a school career out of "messing" with them because they were gay, your bubble was quickly burst. They not only told you off (finger snappin, head twirkin and all) they all also kicked your ass in front of the entire school. Every male student knew that it was not cool to get your ass kicked by a gay student at school. So we pretty much left them alone. The gay students in my school existed on their own terms with very little resistance from other students. Yes. They were gay, but they did not play. They were respected. Of course, every once and a while some dooffus who just did not give a damn would attempt to viciously tease or verbally attack one of the gay males in our school. He would first be "read" his rights either in the hallways, the gym or the school cafeteria, wherever the attempted bullying would take place. As usual, the dooffus would get angry after being humiliated by the gay student want to become physical. So, he would get his ass handed to him either in the cafeteria or in front of the school, in front of all the students gathered around for the fight, after the 2:15 bell rang for us to go home.

My heart goes out to the young people who have so far killed themselves because they were bullied. However, I think today's solution for ending school or even neighborhood bullying is all wrong. The anti-bullying PSAs don't work! Movies and commercials about the effects of bullying are non-effective. These suburban parents need to get their heads out of their asses and go up these schools with bail money in the bank with fists a- swingin! I guarantee this will slow some of this bullying down. Next, stop babying these children. Teach them to protect themselves. A bully does not care about your child trying to reach him/her intellectually or therapeutically. He's a bully and your child is not a therapist! Teach your child to kick his bully's ass! Period. Also, teach your child how to "play the dozens" or check. This is how we survived in the 'hood.'

I was always a small child. Hell, I even looked like a toddler in elementary school. I knew when I arrived to junior high school that I could not be bullied. I was too little for this kind of pressure! If I were to have even allowed one bully to mess with me in the 7th-8th grades, the rest of my school years would have been disasterous. So, I nipped the bullying issue in the bud as soon as it came my way. I want to take this time to pay tribute the weapons I used back in the 80's to get the few bullies I had off my back. Thank you afro pick with the Black fist in the middle. When I stabbed that one kid in the chest.. he never bothered me again. Thank you bat and handful of salt. The salt blinded him temporarily as I popped him about three times over the head with the base ball bat. Thank you cup of boiling hot water. This kid was hiding on the side of my house waiting for me to come outside so he couldjump me. I flung the cup of hot water out the door and down his back. He ran yelling and screaming down my driveway with steam coming from the back of his very hot and wet shirt.

Finally, thank you to the pair of Traxx tennis shoes that I wore in the 8th grade. These sneakers had cleetes at the bottom of them. One forceful swap across the face of this bully (which left cleete marks and dents in his face) not only got the bully off my back, but I also gained a new friend for life. Some reading this post may not agree with the methods I used and many other children used back then to end bullying in our lives, but it sure beats suffering in silence to the point of wanting to kill myself the way that so many children in the suburbs today have obviously chosen to do instead of fighting back to back their lives. Fighting back sure helped me and hundreds of others to be here today healthy, happy and bully free. :)

Happy Birthday, Dr. King! Oh yeah. Thank you for Nothing!

The Dr. Martin Luther King Holiday is upon us again and the annual hypnosis of integration is being infiltrated with the use of mindless birthday celebrations and remembrances all across the country even as I speak. People are still moaning, “We shall overcome” and chanting, “I have a Dream!” Well, I am not one who has ever gone along to get along or who has followed anyone’s crowd. This year is no different. Every year for the past 20 years or so, I have asked myself, “When are supposedly intelligent people (Black people) ever going to snap out of this hypnotic state, this deep psychological sleep?” Every year I get same answer, “Never!” This year is no different.

I want to personally thank Dr. King for being the so-called drum major for peace and integration. I don’t really blame him and his predecessors like A. Phillip Randolph and Roy Wilkins for the idea that they came up with which they honestly believe would free Black people from white hatred and white supremacy. When I look back in history, Black people in this country were treated less than human who were forced to live under the brutal laws of segregation and a consciousness of white superiority that justified (in the minds of whites) the mal treatment of our people. However, in that same history book I read where other people were oppressed too. But the difference in the solutions to the oppression varied. Native Americans, under the threat of attack from the majority of this nation’s first presidents like George Washington and Andrew Jackson, chose to fight off the attackers rather than integrate with their pending oppressors and fall for their broken treaties. Even though they lost a lot of their people in battle, they fought to the death for their right to be free and to maintain their culture that was granted to them by God. I respect that.
The white Jew-ish people who were being killed and oppressed by Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party chose to fight rather than integrate with the enemy and oppressor of Jew-ish people. You have never read in history books nor will you ever see a movie produced in Hollywood that shows a Jew dating and marrying a Nazi to gain freedom. Integrating with Nazis was not even considered an option as a path to freedom for all Jews back then and even now.
The Japanese during WWII, rather than give into American oppression, fought and died for their freedom and independence. They even used kamikaze fighter planes, where the pilots loaded the planes up with explosives and purposefully flew into enemy warships in the ocean. They were not playing. They understood the concept of freedom not being free.
So, now you have black people. Still in 2012 fighting for freedom and equality with our historic and current oppressor. What is it that Jews, Japanese and Native Americans understood about the power of independence from your enemy and the importance of maintaining race and culture that was completely lost when it came to African Americans? We have prayed. We have marched. We moved next door to. We have sex with. We have married. We have had mixed babies with. We go to church with. We have done all of these things that we were convinced by Dr. King and other leaders in the Civil Rights Movement and we are still oppressed.
All I know is when I read up on the days of segregation in this country, we did not have much economically I guess, but we had black owned businesses. The family had fathers and mothers in the home. Single motherhood was not an issue. Black boys were protected more. Black girls were protected more. We had real churches. We had a thriving community. We had a love for our race and culture. Most importantly, we had a deep love for education and striving for excellence was a no-brainer. Since we were not legally allowed to be a part of the so-called American infrastructure as a people, we turned to each other for all of our needs and wants. WE were self-sufficient. WE were a nation within a nation.
Now, since we have integrated instead of fighting like other intelligent groups of people to become independent of the oppressive system of white supremacy, we still face racism in this society such as unfair mortgage lending practices and neighborhood political districts being drown down racial lines to the advantage of the dominant culture. There is a shortage of fathers in the home. There is an overflow of Black males in the prison system, but a lot of empty seats in college classrooms. The Black family has been reduced to 34 year old grandmothers with a daughter who usually a single mother. We are only 12, maybe 13 percent of the population, but statistically we top the list of prison incarceration, divorce, and the contracting of HIV/AIDS. Black boys are now being suspended at a higher rate this nation’s public schools and are even being given harsher punishments for misbehavior than their white male counterparts. Now, so many Black girls’ self-esteem is so low that they have resorted to using their bodies as a means to an end economically. The morals that we once coveted as a people went away along with our racial pride and sense of culture when Dr. King and many others chose to use integration as a strategy to freedom.
I can go on and on about this reality, but I won’t because it’s like beating a dead horse. Maybe one day we will wake up from this nightmare and get on the path of actual freedom and independence. Maybe we will finally understand that no people in history have ever achieved freedom and independence from a wicked oppressor by marrying him, praying for him or praying sitting next to him. Well, I hope this day comes soon. Our children can’t wait any longer for us to stand up like men and women.
I will say this for Dr. King. He did wake up. However, when he woke up and realized that he had made a huge mistake and that Malcolm X and Marcus Garvey both made good points about being separate and doing for self, the eternal damage was already done and the assassin's gun was already cocked, loaded, and pointed at his face before he could tell the rest of us how sorry he was for unknowingly leading his people into burning house.

Dr. King, I know you meant well, but thank you for nothing.

Hip Hop for HIV Awareness Effort: A Contradiction!?

First of all,

I want it to be made clear that I am all for HIV and AIDS awareness programs and initiatives. As a matter of fact, I truly appreciate the efforts being made on a consistent basis by the many organizations across the country and even the world that participate in this very important endeavor. However, when a rap or hip hop station joins in on the effort, I sometimes scratch my head thinking, “They can’t be serious.” Here in the great city of Dallas one of its more popular rap stations, 97.9 FM the Beat, has been advertising heavily over it’s airwaves, it’s very own HIV awareness and prevention community service initiative. Hip Hop for HIV is obviously geared towards the youth and young adults who frequently listen to the programming at the station. I think directing HIV and AIDS prevention and awareness at our youth is very important today. As a matter of fact it has become an absolute necessity. According to recent statistics at UNICEF, in 2007 5.4 million young people between the ages of 15-24 were infected with HIV.

97.9FM the Beat has been urging its listeners to get tested at various hosting sites across the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex since May 29th with the final testing day to be on June 20th. Each person who gets tested gets a ticket to a free summer concert which happens to feature some of today’s popular rappers and RnB singers. This initiative is being co-sponsored by the likes of comedian and nationally syndicated radio personality Rickey Smiley, Mayor Pro-Tem Dwaine R. Caraway, The City of Dallas, Dallas County Community College District and the MLK, Jr. Family Clinic.

Ok. Here is my issue with this rap station and any rap station pushing an HIV/AIDS awareness initiative. The music that is mainly played at rap stations is totally the antithesis of love, safe sex, mature intimacy, self-respect, health and committed relationships and dignity. Rap stations play the theme music for wild and irresponsible sexual behavior. So, please excuse me for looking at what 97.9 the beat is trying to do as being hypocritical and a flat out contradiction. This situation is so “upside down” in theory that the very artists that they have invited to perform at the free summer concert on the 20th totally gives credence to my accusations of the efforts being a flat out contradiction.

Also, I have an issue with the Mayor Pro-Tem being associated with such outlandishness. If this is the person who has politically positioned himself to be the mayor of one this country’s most touted and celebrated cities, I think his supporters may need to take a second look at the person whom they have invested their trust. If he is not discerning enough to know that this was a not a good move politically or even intellectually, I guess we look forward to him co-sponsoring a community service project by pedophiles who want to feed and house homeless children. Mr. Caraway, I totally understand why you have connected yourself to this project. You want the youth vote. However, young people are associated with many other entities around the metroplex that don’t set out with the to purpose to mentally poison them such as the Urban League, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and other non-profit organizations that are in the business of empowering our young people.

The MLK Jr. Family Clinic is just trying to get numbers. Meaning this population of young people is very slow to get tested for HIV and AIDS and partnering with a radio station that has those numbers works well for them. Now, I am not sure what the clinic’s monetary compensation is for getting these particular numbers is but I do believe it is all about getting numbers.

I want all of the legitimate organizations who participate in the HIV/AIDS awareness effort to continue with raising awareness in society. As far as a rap station doing this, it is like a married preacher or minister who often spews sermons about being faithful to God and your spouse, when he leaves the church parking lot every Sunday with a prostitute who is an atheist.

Pregnant teens deserve ABORTIONS not baby showers !!

Pregnant teens should not be given baby showers !!

In the age of hyper-sexuality among our teenage boys and girls, I think it is irresponsible for the relatives of pregnant teens to throw a baby-shower for the teen that is expecting. If you look closely, you will rarely see a man in the same house where baby showers are being thrown for these un-wed, uneducated, financially strapped pregnant teens. You guessed it. I think that this promotes teen pregnancy.

I think that today’s society has made it very comfortable for young girls to have babies without having a pot to piss in financially, educationally, etc.Personally, I think that abortions should be in order for teenagers who get pregnant these days without proper support. Meaning, this child that’s having a child will have to fall on the mercy of tax payer dollars because she made poor choices with her body. It makes no sense to me when there are so many forms of birth control out here today.

I mean, really. Birth control pills, IUDs, foams, gels, and condoms seem to be collecting dust on the shelves of Walgreens and CVS stores across the country. Hell, there are plenty of free clinics and non-profit agencies, such as Planned Parenthood that are waiting to assist our teens in the prevention of unplanned pregnancies.

Throwing an un-repaired, irresponsible, and unmarried teenager baby shower only fans the flames of irresponsibilty.

"I think single/never married women should NOT be awarded child support payments by a Judge"

I don’t believe that women who have never been married should be awarded child support by a judge in a court of law. I think it is unfair to force a man to take of a child financially through the courts. I believe only married women that are going through a divorce or a legal separation should be awarded child support payments through the court system. The court system was no where involved when the woman chose this particular man to have unprotected sex with regardless of what she thought his intentions were when they first met. If the two never said, “I do,” she should not be awarded child support by any court.

I say this because if I were to take a poll of all the women who scream for child support every minute of the day it seems, just to see who among them believes that Jesus died on a cross for their sins, I am more than sure that damn near every female polled would most likely raise her hand in the acceptance of that belief. Meaning, she is claiming to be a Christian. In the Christian belief system there is a set of Laws that is often referred to as the Ten Commandments. One of the commandments strictly forbids (fornication) or sex outside or before marriage.

Now, check this out. When one breaks a law, consequences usually follow. If I were caught speeding in a “no speeding” zone, my consequence for breaking that law is usually a ticket or jail time. I think that those who purposefully break their own Christian commandments should suffer the consequences of their actions like the rest of us. Her consequence could be that of a dead beat dad or a guy who just simply flakes out on her emotionally and financially. So, Rico, are you saying that a man does not have to financially support a child that he helped to bring into this world? My answer is no. I think that the young man has a moral and human obligation to take care of the human being that he helps to create with a woman.

However, I don’t think he should be forced to pay a dime through the courts. I think since the female chose to ignore her own religious laws, it all should fall on her if he does not want to participate in the rearing of the child or the financial support of the child. I know it sounds rough in an era where women have been having their way in the court system, but I think it is only fair. If she can’t use the same feminine wild she used to get him to sleep with her, to get him to be a father to her child, then it is tough. Maybe next time she will chose a better sperm donor. So, Rico, are you saying that the father gets off “scott free” without having any responsibility for his child? No. He will not be getting off “scott free.” The universe will deal with his lame ass. If you don’t believe me, ask Shaquille O’Neal’s biological father what happened when he attempted to re-introduce himself into Shaq’s life after he had made it big in the NBA. So, ladies, stop whining. Stop playing the victim when it is convenient for you.

I am all for a man taking care of his child. I just don’t care for a single man being forced to do something he does not “naturally” or “psychology” wants to do. Ladies, if he does not volunteer to put himself on child-support, you should stop bringing the courts into a mess you created. Just accept it as a loss and in the words of rapper, T.I., “Keep it moving!”Maybe the next time you will be more careful in choosing a man to have a baby with in this day and time. I plan to write my state law makers, congressman, and senator to plead with them begin writing legislation that will first require that a DNA test is taken on the baby immediately upon being born. No birth certificate should be signed until paternity has been established and even after paternity has been established, the man should still be given the option to whether or not he wants to sign the document. If he signs the birth certificate, this, in my opinion, should not be used as automatic leverage for a case for financial child support. By the way, the paternity test should be required for both married and un-married couples.

The only difference is the married man will automatically be held responsible for making child support payments in the event of divorce or legalized separation. The single man will not be affected by this new law. If women would take more responsibility for their bodies in these relationships, the confusion with paternity and child support would not be happening the way has been be far too long in this country. Ladies, protect your body. You are responsible for your body and not some man. So, Rico, should the men be responsible for their bodies too? Yes. However, he can’t have sex and create a baby unless a woman gives him permission to not only enter her body, but without a condom as well.

Lebron James Made to Look Like King Kong in Vogue Magazine

That is a damn shame! Why, Lord?

I was surfing web when I came across this article today. However, I had already seen the photo a short time ago and the image of King Kong actually entered my mind at that time. When I first saw how LeBron James was posed and how the white model was draped over his arm as if she was being carried off, I thought about the old King Kong movie. Low and behold, today, I come across this article on the internet asking the question whether or not the picture congers up old racial stereotypes.
Uh, yes!!!!

It seems that the more we are supposed to be making progress in this country and even in the world; racism rears its ugly head every time. Well, I am not shocked or too appalled by the photo because I have gotten sort of tired of being pissed about things that are done to us as a race by people who don’t like us! In a time when having lots of money is more important than having knowledge of self and racial pride, LeBron’s big, stupid ass and many others that happen to believe that being rich makes you equal and accepted, will continue to be made monkeys of in this society.

White Racism is not dead. I just wanted share this with those out there in the Black community who have had the nerve to equate being rich with being equal and accepted under this current system of white supremacy. I will continue to READ my books on post traumatic slave syndrome, white supremacy, black labor-white wealth, and listening to my Farrakhan and Malcolm X speeches on you tube. I would invite many of our professional Black athletes to do the same so this mess won’t happen to any other Black athlete. Check on the article here

Kwanzaa Celebration Attacked in Memphis

Man, 2007 has been a year of hell for Black people in America. Let’s see. Young Black males and females have been brutalized by police departments across the country. President George W. Bush and his band of his conservative brothers in Washington DC as well as states across the nation have rolled full steam ahead in their efforts to dismantle damned near every civil liberty and societal gains ever made by people of color in this country. I believe that he will fight and scratch until his very last day in office to make sure that what he started as President will continue long after he is no longer the President of the United States. The Republican right wingers and the conservative extremists in society have made sure that they have left no stone unturned when it comes to tuning back the racial hands of time. This is on a national level.

Recently, in the city of Memphis, a White, Christian, Conservative politician by the name of Chris Thomas, who serves as the city probate court clerk, reared his ugly racist head by waging an all out war on the cultural celebration of Kwanzaa. He is claiming that an annual Kwanzaa celebration that is hosted by another politician in the city, Shelby County Board Commissioner, Henri R. Brooks (an African American) discriminates against Christians and Jews in the city. You see. Thomas is objecting to Ms. Brooks holding the celebration in the chamber of the County Commission. The reason Ms. Brooks wants to hold the celebration in commission chambers is because The Memphis Pink Palace Museum wanted to charge the tax payers $300.00 and she did not think it was fair to us as tax payers! Way to go, Commissioner Brooks!

Today, I was listening to a local radio talk-show in Memphis, “Real Talk” with Jennings Bernard http://www.memphisrealtalk.com/ when former city councilman and county commissioner, Shep Wilbun, called into the show and stated, “This is an old issue. As a county commissioner, I have held a Kwanzaa celebration in the county commission chambers, the county school board auditorium, and in the Shelby County Building. I think this is an old issue that is being re-hashed by Chris Thomas because of his possible bid for Shelby County Mayor in 2010. I think that he is attempting to gain brownie points with a certain constituency out in the county.”
Chris Thomas is of the personal belief that Kwanzaa is a religious celebration and stated that groups that practice the religions of Christianity and Judaism are not permitted to hold religious events in public facilities. He is basically crying foul in this regard. I am pretty sure that Chris Thomas does not include Blacks in his brand of Christianity. In my opinion, this has nothing to do with whether or not Kwanzaa is a religious celebration or not. I agree with Shep Wilbun. I think Chris Thomas is playing the race card in order to gain brownie points. I think that he is a candidate that has been re-elected because he is white and not because he has done a good job as probate court clerk. He is really showing his true colors (no pun intended) in this situation. Chris, if you want to be the new county mayor in the future, this is not the way you go about the process of becoming the next mayor of Shelby County.

Attacking Kwanzaa is a very poor start, Mr. Thomas. There are so many other real issues in the city that you can attack or even address that would possibly get this voter’s attention. However, if dirty, racial politics has been your strategy all along, I guess you would not be familiar with good old fashioned campaigning. Your argument over whether or not Kwanzaa is religious in its make-up is sad and weak. I am sure the current Shelby County, Mayor AC Wharton, and any judge you cry and moan to will see it the same way. You should be ashamed of yourself for having such bigoted and racist beliefs. Christian? I don’t think so!

This latest attack on Black or African American culture has really pissed me off. Every time you turn on the television, Black people and Black culture is being attacked. It is as if certain segments of Caucasian America have laid down the racial gauntlet and are held bent on putting Niggers back in their place. In the city of Memphis, TN racial division is nothing new. A certain segment of Caucasian Memphis wants to see Blacks removed from the city and this is not an exaggeration. People like Chris Thomas don’t bother me because as history has taught me, his behavior is to be expected. However, I am always concerned about the seemingly intellectual stagnation of Blacks in the city of Memphis and across the country. It is as if we (as a race) are just sitting around waiting for a Jesus figure to come and save us from these wicked racial attacks.

I know that all Caucasians in Memphis and in America don’t think and believe as George W. Bush or Chris Thomas, but it would be nice if the ones that claim to not have a racist bone in their body would speak up every once in a while when a negative representative of their community or race dares to speak-out on their behalf. Also, some Black people in the city of Memphis need to get up off of their frightened, lazy, Christian asses to speak up for themselves for a change when these racial attacks arise! Hell, Henri Brooks can’t do all of the fighting by herself! In closing, I want to take you back to the radio I listened to today, “Real talk” with Jennings Bernard. Today’s guest host was veteran journalist and radio talk show host, Leon Gray. Leon is a widely known in Memphis for his writing and talk show persona. Some may even describe him as being too controversial for Memphis radio because of his unique brand of talk that assures that the intellect in all of us will be challenged and even held hostage at times whenever we engage in dialogue with him over the air about a topic of the day. It doesn’t matter if the topic is local, national, or international; Leon is ready for all callers.

I recalled Leon because as I listened to him discuss the latest attack on Kwanzaa by city probate court clerk, Chris Thomas, with callers, Leon made a statement that struck a chord with me, culturally, racially and even as a man. Towards the end of the conversation and at the end of the show, Leon made this statement, “It is time for a racial war! Let’s have at it! When we have at it, let the better man win. I am not talking about with guns and violence and all of that. I am talking about putting it all on the table; laying it all out between the races.” Amen, Brother, Leon! I, too, think it is past time that we open up the history books to have this intellectual stand-off with people like Chris Thomas. I think this exercise would help to kill the false of sense of racial superiority that many Caucasians in the city of Memphis and across the world feel. Most importantly, I think this exercise would finally help to remove the psychological shackles of fear and inferiority in the minds of so many Black people in the city of Memphis and across this nation when comes to how we view ourselves under this system of white supremacy.

Hmm, somehow Leon, I don’t think that many of the Black preachers in the city of Memphis would go for this historical stand-off between the races. Sadly, many of them have profited handsomely in the city off of the ignorance, fear, and sense of inferiority in the minds of so many Black people that live in Memphis. Well, if any who is reading this article plans to be in Memphis during the Christmas holidays, be sure to make contact with Commissioner Henri Brooks to find out where the Kwanzaa celebration is going to be held and maybe I will see you there.

If you would like to read up on Kwanzaa to see for yourself that it is not a religious holiday nor a religious celebration, please click on the websites below.

The Mayor of Memphis Threatened to kick my ASS!!

December 13, 2007

“I’ll kick yo ass!” is what the newly re-elected mayor of the city of Memphis yelled at me from his mini-van as I stood holding my R. Kelly protest signs outside of the new Westin Hotel in downtown Memphis. For the past three years, I have peacefully demonstrated outside of R. Kelly’s concert whenever he would come to Memphis to perform. The protesting of R. Kelly’s concerts came about after a video surfaced a few years back that showed him (Kelly) having sex with a 14 year old girl. The video also shows R. Kelly urinating on the minor in the middle of the sex act. This past Sunday night on December 9th around 8:30 pm or so, the mayor, Willie Herenton, walked out of the Westin Hotel bar called the Daily Grill, and headed towards his car with a couple of guests he had with him. We all know that the mayor is no stranger to liquor spots throughout the city, so I was not surprised to see him walk of the establishment.
Well, as he was pulling off in his mini-van, he slowed up to read my R. Kelly protest sign, which read, “Some people in Memphis love to support crooked politicians, preachers, and RnB Pedophiles!”

I believe that he read all the up to the crooked politician part of sign and became really guilty or extremely insecure because he immediately took offense to my sign. The mayor quickly rolls down his window and yells, “Are you talking bout me?” I just looked at him without saying anything. Then, he yells, “I know you ain’t talkin’ bout me!” I responded, “Sir, it is just a sign.” He responds, “I know you ain’t talkin’ bout me. I’ll kick yo ass!” When he said that, I went into shock. I could not believe that I was being threatened with an ass kicking by the CEO of the city of Memphis. Oh, he was not done. He yells again, “You talking bout me?” “I know you ain’t talkin’ bout me. I’ll kick yo ass!” This time I responded in anger, “Yes, I am talking about you!” By this time he was making the left turn to leave. Even in his making a left turn, he was still yelling, “I’ll kick yo ass!” This is when I responded very loudly, “The hit dog hollered, Mayor!”
I could not believe what had just happened. I was just threatened with bodily harm by the Mayor of the city of Memphis. Wow! That was so crazy! That dude is obviously crazy!

There was a young, Caucasian female sitting outside of the bar drinking a beer that witnessed the entire exchange in shock and amazement. When the mayor drove off she said, “Oh my God! I can’t believe he just did that!” “How ‘hood’ was that!?” Then, one of the Memphis Police Officers that was directing traffic for the concert walked over in shock and asked, “What did he just say?” We both explained to him that the Mayor of Memphis had told me that he was going to kick my ass because of what he read on my protest sign.

Well, I have to say that I blame the lower level thinking aspect of Black Memphis for this guy. I blame most of Black Memphis for creating this particularly ignorant, disrespectful, thuggish, and uncouth Mayor. A large section of Black Memphis tends to promote and even condones this form of misbehavior in its religious and political leadership. The anger that I felt as the mayor threatened me quickly turned to disappointment once I began to replay the incident in my mind. When I looked into his eyes as he spoke to me his broken English, I saw an old man who was essentially clinging on to dear life. I saw a man who felt that he had to prove his relevance and even his masculinity to a much younger man who was only standing out there that night exercising his right to free speech and the freedom to protest a sick a pedophile.

Has the black community bragged so much on how physically tough this Mayor is and about how he punched-out some judge in a bar back in the 1980’s that he (Willie Herenton) had begun to believe his own hype? All I know is that this mayor needs counseling for his many issues. You have to be mentally ill or just plain stupid to behave the way he did as the sitting mayor of a major metropolitan city. Sadly, some people in Memphis will read this article and wish that the mayor had gotten out of his car that night and attempted to make good on his threat against a much younger, quicker, and stronger man. I am glad he did not get out of his car. It was bad enough that this elder (who is supposed to be extending words of wisdom to me, the younger man) chose to react verbally abusive towards me out of old age insecurity.

Wait, he had just walked out of the bar. Hell, he was probably drunk. That would have been even more disappointing because drunk driving kills so many people each year. I can’t but help but wonder If the mayor would have respected my right to freedom of speech as well as my right to protest had I been a man that was much larger in size, had a few of my die-hard friends with me, or if I was white.

If you would like send the mayor a message please feel free to do so at mayor@memphistn.gov
I am sure he would love to hear from you. Be careful. He just might threaten to kick your ass if you write something he does not approve of.

R. Kelly and Black People

The RnB Molester is Returning to Memphis and Most of Black Memphis Can’t seem to wait.
(November 18th, 2007)

RnB singer, R. Kelly, is returning to Memphis on December 9th for a concert at the FedEx Forum. For the past three years or so, I have been protesting and boycotting the singer and self proclaimed “pied piper of RnB” because of a video that came out a few years that showed him having sex with a 14 year old girl. This sick dude also pissed on the little girl as she was performing oral sex on him. I am convinced that the majority in Black America have seen the video because the of the mere fact that the video circulated in more Black households, barber shops, beauty shops, and on more computer screens than the recently bootlegged copy of the latest Denzel Washington movie, “American Gangster.” Still, after three years there seems to be reluctance in the Black community to demand that R. Kelly admit his wrong-doing and seek help for his obvious problem with having sex with under-aged girls. Why is this? Do the majority of Black people not care about what happens to little black children as a whole? Or does R. Kelly have to have sex with their 14 year old daughters individually in order for this to be an issue? Does R. Kelly have to be seen having sex and pissing on a little 14 year old white girl in a video in order to get a reaction out of us as a community? A race?

Hell, if he is found guilty in a court of law for this, he should be punished. Let’s see. There was Allyah whom he married when she was only15 years old. Next, there was the 17 year old back-up dancer that accused him of sexual harassment, which was settled out of court. Then, there is the video taped evidence of him having a “special liking” for an under-aged young girl. Let’s not forget R. Kelly’s own brother coming out with the revelation of him having sex with his own 12 year old niece. Individually, we can all choose to believe or disbelieve the brother’s accusations. However, the Allyah marriage, the back-up dancer incident, and the sex with the 14 year old girl are all documented facts that you can’t deny. Sadly, many in the Black community have chosen to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to it all because they love R. Kelly’s music (which has not been very creative or good in the past 10 years).

It has been reported that R. Kelly did not have a great childhood. It was reported that he was neglected often by his then, alcoholic mother, and sexually molested by a male member of his own family. People, all of this tends to lead to inappropriate behavior in adulthood. Three years ago, I wanted him jailed for what he does (freak under-aged girls) when the video came out. Today, I am not so stern in wanting him to be jailed. I want him to admit that he has a problem and make a vow to seek the appropriate help. What I mean by seeking appropriate help is not sitting down a preacher, minister, pastor, bishop, or Imam and repenting to the Lord or Allah. I mean real clinical mental help with a licensed or certified mental health professional. I would recommend a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has experience in working with adults with sexual issues that are derived from negative emotional and sexual experiences from childhood. If he could find a Black man with a LCSW that would be great! I also want him to also apologize to the Black community that has supported him over his fifteen year music career for lying and even refusing to take responsibility for his actions over the past three years. Hell, even Akon said he was sorry about a situation that he obviously had no control over. He even made an apology song. R. Kelly’s sick ass won’t even do that!

I can’t help at times, but blame many Black women for R. Kelly’s un-repentive behavior in this matter. Whenever, I have protested outside of an R. Kelly concert in Memphis, TN, hundreds of women would stroll pass me (most times with a young teen daughter by their side) and yell statement at me like, “Leave R. Kelly alone!” “That’s not him on that tape!” “Are you free of sin or sin free?” “Why you protestin’ him” or “You juss mad cuz he making money!” Okay, to be fair, I will share some of the statements by some of the Black men that have walked pass me as I held up my protest signs. They would often yell, “Stop hatin’ on dat man for making money!” “You crazy dan a mutha-fukah!” “Da mane ain’t been found guilty of nuthin in a cote uh law!” or “Mane, what white people payin’ you to do dis?” Needless to say, I was hurt and amazed by every question and accusation. I have always thought I was standing up for the protection of our children whenever I protested this obvious molester.

I was so disappointed at the large number of black women with their young daughters in tow that rushed to get in line to be entertained by the pissing, pied pedophile, of RnB. I also thought, “Wow, I hope that this is not all that I have to choose from to be a wife and a mother of my future children in the city of Memphis!” “Can I at least find a Black woman with morals in the city of Memphis?” Also, there is a large Christian population of Blacks that often rush by me to get into the concert. It is interesting because, R. Kelly usually comes to Memphis to perform concerts on Sunday nights. Memphis is a very church oriented city (over 3000 churches) and the majority of Black Memphis attends church on a regular basis. I am always amazed at the number of people who attend worship service that morning and get entertained by R. Kelly that night. It boggles the mind.

Anyway, I will be back on post this year with my protest sign in hand, standing up for the protection of children and demanding that R. Kelly seeks help. I don’t plan to do anything differently from the previous years. Anyone who is down for the cause is more than welcomed to join me in the protest. However, is it only an invite and not a request. You can meet me at the FedEx Form at 5:00 pm on Sunday December the 9th. Dress warm because it will be a chilly evening and I don’t necessarily mean the weather temperature. The fans of R. Kelly tend to act chilly towards anyone for protesting their favorite music making molester.

Does Oprah have a point?

What's up Everybody!?

Oprah made an interesting statement in the news recently when critics asked her, "Why build a school in Africa when the inner city of Chicago can use several new schools?" Her response, "I became frustrated whenever I would visit the American schools and I would ask the children what it was that they really wanted and they would often respond, "Ipods!, Xboxes, or name brand sneakers!" When I asked the children in South Africa what they wanted, they responded, "We want uniforms to wear to school."

In essence, she was comparing the seemingly lack of value in education in the minds of many Black children in America to that of Black children in Africa who tend to value the importance of a good education.

Would you compare her comments to that of an angry Bill Cosby or does she have a valid point?

Black Women Have Been Made Fools Of in this Society!

Fall 2005

I wrote this thought because I wanted to share not only a male's perspective on the topic, but a Black man's perspective. I am 36 years old, happily single, no children, college educated, professionally trained as a social worker/alcohol and drug therapist and an aspiring youth motivational speaker. I have never been on the criminal justice roll nor do I mistreat women. I date here and there when the spirit or my mojo hits me. I have the utmost respect for Black women and I truly believe that God sent them to the earth exclusively for me, a Black man. However, something has gone terribly wrong in the relationship department as it relates to Black men and women. I have heard all of the arguments, opinions, debates over cocktails, and even heard prayers that have been sent up to God for the explanation for why it appears that Black men and Black women have fallen out of love and have even become mortal enemies for the most part.

You see. I am concerned because I hope to seriously date and marry an Afrikan woman some day and have Afrikan children. Moreover, I hope to build a strong foundation with the right Afrikan woman in the future. Sadly, that future seems far away for me because of the state of confusion we seem to be in as a community. You see. We have many women scratching and clawing at Black men while many Black men are pimping and exploiting Black women. The rest of us are just who have been caught in the middle of this madness, are now running for emotional and spiritual cover due to feelings of uncertainty within the dating pools. I don't like being this way. I don't like seeing our people in this situation. I hate reading letters by Black women who say that good Black men are hard to find when I know that we are every where, even at the bus stop heading to work. Maybe if many of them would stop dating inmates on visitation day and sleeping with the whore-mongering preachers that have wives and even male lovers on the side, they would see us.

I think Black women in America have been sold a fake bill of goods when it comes to her Black men in the system we live under (racism/white supremacy). I want all of the independent, empowered, self assured, financially secured, but lonely, angry, and annoyed Black women to take a little trip with me for a moment in order that I may show her how she has been "played." I will keep this quick. Under the system of racism/white supremacy (Dr. Frances Cress Welsing-The Isis Papers) there is only one man-the white man. The rest of the men (which happen to be of color) are considered to be less than a man. This is his philosophy. Not only is this his philosophy, he created a system of laws to ensure this. According to the US Constitution and the Afrikan will never be equal to him under this system. So, for the past 445 years, since the days of physical slavery (Slave Codes) the days of Jim Crow (Segregation Laws) the Black male and Black female have been under attack.

I have always wondered what women meant whenever they would announce that they are empowered or independent because whenever they would say this, I would often wonder why was there a need for them to announce it to the world when they don't really seem to be happy or content. I don't recall any Black men in history who created laws that suppressed their rights as human beings. I don't recall any Black men in history who subjugated women to a lower class of people because of their gender. As I recall in American history we were both being subjugated, suppressed, and made to be and feel less than human in this country and across the globe.

The difference is the Black female of the past 20 years has been empowered not by God, but by the white male to be his second in command. Meaning, she has been empowered to be all that she can be systematically, while Black boys and Black men are still under direct attack. This has led to two occurrences: More Black men, in our struggle to be men, have been relegated to making a living or hustling out side of the system because there are so many steep stipulations that have been placed on our backs in order for us to be accepted in this system in the corporate and academic/scholastic sectors. It is as if we are being required to be "lady like" in order to be accepted. Unfortunately, quite a few of us "Black men" have been broken down emotionally and mentally beyond repair. The second occurrence is Black women have been empowered or conditioned by their white male and lesbian white female counterparts to take on the role as the "man" in this society and in her community, thus, creating confusion. You see. In every relationship, there is a masculine and a feminine aspect of the union.

According to this society, the man or masculine entity is usually the head of the house hold and a lot of times take the lead in the relationship. However, how can this be when the men are being systematically driven to take on the feminine role and women are being empowered to take on the masculine role? There are more Black women who make more money than Black men in this system of white male dominated and controlled economics. However, the white male continues to enjoy a wide gap in money earned over his white female counter part. He understands that in order for a man to head a house hold and be the bread winner, he has to earn a comfortable living. Thus, giving his woman the option to be a stay home wife/mom or obtain employment if she wants to. Strategically, Black men are not viewed as men in this system forcing him work twice as hard to economically sustain a wife and children.

When Black men were forced out of the home even on the plantation during chattel slavery, this left the female in a vulnerable position to fend for herself. She did what she had to do to maintain what was left of the family. Even today, the cycle continues. However, as empowered as most Black women claim to be, I don't understand why they don't know this history and understand it. Hell, Black women are in all aspects of society from corporate to government. They have been "allowed" to excel in all aspects of life instead of being relegated to a few careers like dancing, rapping, and sports. Black women are in positions of power, yet they are powerless in knowing how to regain their families and keep a man. Most Black women are harmless and are viewed as non-threatening conformists under this system. So, thinking that one day she will turn on the white male who empowered her for what he has done to her man is the farthest thought from my mind. However, I can't help but wonder if there are any Black women out there in the system who would even think about cracking the door open just a little to let a brother in.

These are a few of the many games that have been played on the psyche of Black people.
Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu wrote a four part series in his classic, "Countering the conspiracy to destroy Black Boys." Dr. Frances Cress Welsing also wrote a series of books that would explain why Black people have fallen out of love and how it was done. Also, Dr. Julia Hare has written books to explain how the Black family has been manipulated. The answer to why so many Black women say that they can't seem to find a "good Black man" is right in front of them.

Unfortunately, those same empowered, independent, "Blessed and Highly Favored" females don't read meaningful books. They have allowed fags like J.L. King, E. Lynn Harris, Tyler Perry, corporate white men, and angry, old, Black men-hating, fat women along with the women who marry obviously gay men, but claim they did not know later on after the fact upon hearing the whispers about him being gay to preach to them about Black men.

So, until we start realizing who the open enemy of the Black family is and will always be, some Black women will continue to ask stupid questions like, "Why can't I find a good Black Man?"
